Earthsea Releases Thought-Provoking Music Video For Their Single “Four More Years”

Earthsea has a brand new music video set for release for their track ‘Four More Years’. The video features a range of vibrant 1960s style colours laced over the band’s silhouettes, with thought-provoking and powerful visuals, inviting viewers to question their role within society and the destruction inflicted by humans. The video is strong and thoughtful in its own right, whilst playing into the lyricism of the track which tackles climate oblivion and the geopolitical chaos that we find ourselves in. The video was directed and produced by Joe Peecock, a filmmaker based in London.

The track itself features intricate guitar and bass grooves paired with disjointed synth arpeggios, creating interesting polyrhythms that the track is built around. We also see a showcase of reverberant, spacious melodies and complex drum playing with utmost precision. When you add the haunting vocal performance into the mix, the entire track creates a sense of uneasiness, riding the line between tight and sporadic. The resulting sound is captivating from start to finish as your mind tries to latch onto each layer of rhythm.

On the single, Earthsea explains:

We wrote Four More Years around the 2016/17 US election cycle. It’s our fantasy plan to deal with a barely believable but in no way fantastic man.

He’s back! His bloated ego trumping the lives and wellbeing of people all over the world. We’re still pissed off. But we like the song.

The video we shot opens this out, against the backdrop of climate oblivion and the geopolitical chaos we face as we go into the 2020s.”

Earthsea are old friends who formed a band rooted in British alternative rock. Their writing includes textural soundscapes, salsa grooves and haunting melodies, inspired by artists such as Radiohead, Nine Inch Nails, Elbow and Japan, as well as many electronic and contemporary classical influences.

Since forming they’ve embarked on two nationwide tours, playing venues such as Camden Assembly, Hoxton Bar and Grill, the Cavern Club and Manchester Academy 3. Other prestigious features have included XFM, BBC Introducing, The Manchester Evening News and Tom Robinson’s ‘Fresh On The Net’.

The singles ‘Four More Years’ and ‘Bad Head Bad Heart’ were recorded with Ian Flynn (Werkhouse) and Ritchie Kennedy at Narcissus Studios, founded by Antony Genn and Martin Slattery. Earthsea are currently working on their first full length release, following on from their 2017 EP ‘Specimen’.
