Kits.AI: Redefining Collaboration and Creation in the AI Era of Music
With 1,000,000 voice transformations, 80,000 voices trained, and 100,000 users, Kits.AI leads the AI-powered creative renaissance in music with artist-first voice cloning.
With the rise of AI Voice cloning technology, artists face new opportunities and challenges around how their voices are used. Some, like Holly Herndon and Grimes, have embraced the technology and built tools to share their voices with the world. Aiming to bring the same opportunity to all artists, Kits.AI has launched tools for artists to safely create, license, and share their own voice models, opening new opportunities for fan engagement and monetization.
“When we saw Grimes’ embracing AI to amplify her voice and engage her community, we were really excited by all the possibilities it could open for artists. But not all artists have the same resources as Grimes to support this kind of experiment,” explains Kits Co-Founder Evan Dhillon. “We believe that artists of all levels can open new revenue streams and build their communities if they have a way to do it themselves, so we set out to build it with Kits.AI.”
In an AI music landscape of bootleg music and copyright infringement, Kits.AI is the only AI Voice platform working directly with artists to license and release their AI Voices. Kits.AI has developed a brand new type of license for AI Voice Models, “Personal Until Approved,” that allows artists to retain full control over how their voices are commercialized. The “Personal Until Approved” license gives users who transform an artist’s voice a personal-use license, but any commercial release of their derivative song must receive approval from the artist. Through this new licensing approach, Kits.AI allows artist voice models to be accessible, while ensuring artists retain full control over their commercial likeness.
Like its parent company Arpeggi Labs, Kits.AI was built to make collaboration and new tech-driven creation approaches more accessible, equitable, and valuable for artists and fans. Along with seed funding led by VC firm Andreessen Horowitz, Kits is backed by a solid base of creator-first investors including Kygo’s Palm Tree Crew fund, Austin Rosen’s Electric Feel Ventures, Anthony Saleh’s WndrCo, 3LAU, Steve Aoki, Lionel Richie, and Wyclef Jean.
“We are excited to partner with Kits.AI to be on the forefront of helping artist voices be recognized and heard during the AI boom,” says a spokesperson for entertainment company Electric Feel Ventures. “They are an important piece of the conversation to give control back to the artists while maintaining creative integrity.”
“As we traverse this new AI era, the limitless potential for creativity is thrilling, yet the need for ethical, rights-based discourse is equally crucial,” says TK, a singer-songwriter and producer and the first artist to partner with Kits.AI. “After all, in the realm of AI voice models, it's our voices, our impact, and we must retain control as artists; this is why I align with Kits.AI.”
Since TK signed on, more artists have joined the platform, including multi-talented artist producer, Reo Cragun and up-and-coming soul/pop singer-songwriter Sara Phillips. In its first weeks post-launch, Kits has converted 1,000,000 audio clips, trained over 80,000 custom voices, and gained 100,000 users.
