NN Music Video of the Week: “Yes Please” by Nire Bird

For NIRE aka ERIN, everything is an inversion or riddle and nothing is as it seems. A thought that influences her music, which doesn’t follow one set path or abide by a set of genre rules. A classically trained Violist and pianist, she studied at the renowned Dreyfoos Performing Arts school Stateside and the Royal Conservatoire in London.

Taking her contemporary teachings, Nire wanted to blend this with the creative new, taking the listener on an immersive musical journey. “Beach Noir”, her premiere 10 track album, is out now. Observations of her Floridian upbringing generated her concept of “Beach Noir’– glamour on the surface with it’s sinful underbelly. A concept that was further observed upon moving to the South of France and London.

Speaking about the album, she says: ”I like to intrigue and draw people into my world. Revealing secrets as I go like a shell unfurling. I created Beach Noir as my own escape and refuge to claw back my identity after motherhood. A desire to explore the meaning of emotional stories and the dichotomies of life and identity. Now I release it as my reminder of the wild side always lurking just beneath the surface and that sometimes the real story begins when the fairy tale ends. These first songs are those chapters.”

Creating this album was a cathartic shift, a clawing back of my identity which had become lost to the black hole of society called middle class mothers in the hood of west London …where your just not expected to do anything so unusual at this ‘age’, not meant to put yourself out there to generate a new career. Musically it became a culmination of the more contemporary and experimental music I studied at Art school and popular music I loved over the years. Reflections on the beauty and angst of all my choices so far came through. Beach Noir is my reminder of the wild side always lurking just beneath the surface and that sometimes the real story begins when the fairy tale ends. These first songs are those chapters.”
