Alt-R&B Artist/Producer Leon Zai Returns With “Anymore”
Alt-R&B singer, songwriter, and producer Leon Zai returns this spring with a soul-baring new single, “Anymore”, a warm, guitar-laced reflection on self-worth, closure, and the bittersweet timing of love.
“Anymore” blends acoustic guitar, mellow basslines, and rich vocal stacks to tell the story of a love that didn’t live up to its promise—and the quiet clarity that comes once you've finally let go. Written in the wake of a realization of self-worth, Zai reflects on the past relationship and the importance of self-love. The track captures the paradox of healing: the peace of moving on, and the ache of knowing it's really over.
“Somehow, it’s always when you’ve made peace and started becoming yourself again that they come back,” says Zai. “This song isn’t angry—it’s a conversation with the version of me that stayed too long. It’s the moment where you realize, I’m not so sure I even want what I had anymore... and I mean it.”
Known for his emotionally resonant storytelling, Zai pairs poetic lyrics with genre-blurring production. Though melancholy at times, “Anymore” carries a sense of lightness—like the first warm breeze after winter, hinting that something new is beginning.
Born in the U.S. to Indian immigrants and raised in the U.K., Zai—selected by James Fauntleroy and Larrance Dopson (of 1500 or Nothin') to be among the first class at their trailblazing 1500 Sound Academy—”delivers writing that is memorable and relatable, and I’m very excited to see his work finally out there for the world to hear”, says Founder and former CEO of GospoCentric Records, Vicki Mack Lataillade.
“Anymore” follows the success of Zai’s debut single, Safe, which earned nearly 100k streams on Spotify, airplay on BBC Asian Network, and praise for its cinematic visuals and emotional depth. A visualizer and performance video for Anymore is set to drop later this spring, offering fans a stripped-back, immersive look into the story behind the song. “Anymore” is the second single from Zai’s upcoming EP Savor, due later this year. Leon says that much of why he creates music is to help heal and uplift others, and shed light on his experience as a South Asian, third culture creative.
As a songwriter Leon is versatile having written pop, R&B, faith based, k-pop, and electronic dance music. Notably a song he co-wrote with Wu.Am.I, “I Love When It Rains in LA” has accrued +2 million streams on Spotify. Leon also co-wrote “TYE DYE” which was released by K-Pop artist JinE in 2023.
