Elthia Drops Her Fantastical New Music Video “medusa”
Singer-songwriter Elthia creates indie pop music that leaves her listeners marveling at her wordplay and vibing to her ethereal, dreamy style. Combining real stories with fantastical elements, Elthia writes character pieces and ghost stories that she sets to music in each of her songs. In her own words, “I want my songs to feel like paintings that you sit in front of and stare at for a long time, getting completely entranced by them. I want you to listen to my music and continue to get lost in that world.” She enhances her artistic image by creating wearable art pieces, using dripping candles, demitasse spoons, and skeletal claws, all featured in her music videos.
In October 2020, Elthia’s debut single, “i love you but you make me cry” went viral, generating millions of views online and creating a fanbase eager for her following releases. Inspired by thrillers and the dark feminine, Elthia takes on the role of a monster playing with her prey in her most recent single, "medusa". The music video, which features all costumes created by Elthia, is directed by Ryan Blewett.
Elthia confides, "Inspired by the music videos of Lady Gaga and Michael Jackson, I wanted the video to act as a short film, enhancing the aesthetic and creating a visual world for the song to exist in. I made all of the costumes myself, including a 15-foot snake tail, an Iris van Herpen-inspired dress, and a full-body suit based on a venomous sea snake. The music video blends reality and fantasy, capturing the chilling aura of a monster story that could exist in the real world, right under your nose, waiting to be discovered." This song embraces the dark feminine through this mythical, fantastical world, creating its own brand of escapist pop. “medusa” invites you to come play with her, but be warned: she’ll turn your body to stone."
