R&B Indie-Pop Siblings ORA Reveal “Life Witness” Single

Lea and Samuel are siblings. In many ways, they are alike and, at the same time, diametrically opposed. Despite their differences, they have always been there for each other, and their new single, 'Life Witness', is musical proof of how strong their connection is as sister and brother.

We wanted to write a song about our relationship—being brother and sister and going through life together, for better or worse. We may not have lived life in the same way growing up, and we are very different people; however, we’ve kind of seen the world through the same eyes. That’s why we’ve always been there for each other—ever since we walked hand in hand in kindergarten—as each other’s life witnesses,” says Samuel.

When 22-year-old Lea and her 23-year-old brother, Samuel, write, record, and produce their music together, they instantly tap into a dynamic energy of their own and become ORA. Writing and creating ‘Life Witness’ came from a deeply personal perspective, while the hook came to life when Samuel coincidentally began to sing one of the biggest disco hits ever made.

In the making of ‘Life Witness’, we knew it was going to be about sibling bonds. Caught by the feeling, Samuel suddenly started to jump around the studio singing ‘We Are Family’ by Sister Sledge. Even though it was just a funny idea, I knew we had to incorporate it and make it our own,” explains Lea.

Even though it’s just a subtle tribute to ‘We Are Family’, ORA wanted to share the track with the original writer, seeking his blessing to use the famous words on ‘Life Witness’. They received this blessing from the one and only disco legend and musical icon, Nile Rodgers.

ORA, named after their grandmother’s name meaning “sunlight”, has already gained international praise with their R&B-influenced Nordic indie-pop. ‘Bad Day’ was featured by Ones To Watch (US), Dansende Beren (BE), and tmrw magazine (UK), while ‘Space Rock’ received airplay on Danish national radio, P3.
