NN Music Video of the Week: “People Pleaser” by Tebi Rex

Independent Irish Alt Hip-Hop duo Tebi Rex (Matt Ó and Max Zanga) return with their latest single, “People Pleaser”.

Tebi Rex, fresh off their delusional high horse that was the release of IMTHEBEST, return to unveil a deeper perspective. “People Pleaser” exposes their needy side and their struggles to fit in. The duo explore everything in their life that makes them laugh and People Pleaser is Tebi Rex at their most pathetic and desperate, yet their most entertaining and relatable.

Directed by Dublin-based Olivia McLaughlin (CMAT, Saint Sister, Alice Merton), the accompanying visual, our NN Music Video of the Week, transports viewers into the shoes of a people pleaser with the inability to say “no”. The intimate cinematography emulates the first day on the job feeling, evoking emotions of being trapped in a cycle of unfulfilling and neverending “yeses” that lead to nowhere but unhappiness.

Tebi Rex share - "Please, please like us. Oh please…."

Over the course of their last two albums, The Young Will Eat The Old and It’s Gonna Be Okay, Tebi Rex found themselves inspired by the formats of Classic Theatre and Fantasy Literature respectively. As they prepare for the release of upcoming EP Sitcom in the autumn, the duo shift gears to focus on the medium of television, pairing streamlined pop/hip-hop production with simple yet cyclical narratives.

Tebi Rex is one of the most exciting Irish bands creating a stir not only at home but in the US and UK via their high-energy live shows, witty videos and engaging social presence. The duo are drawing from their experiences of touring the UK and Europe as well their journeys as solo artists over the past year.
