Slippy Unveils His Most Forward-Thinking Project Yet With “Existentia” EP on Monstercat
Alex Swartwout – better known by his stage name Slippy – is an EDM producer and DJ hailing from California. He began releasing music with Monstercat in 2015 and has quickly grown to become a widely-recognized figure in the bass music scene, known for his distinguished take on trap and dubstep, alongside other styles.
Slippy’s signature sound can best be described as a riveting hybrid of genres with dark, sinister, orchestral-influenced undertones. Many of Swartwout’s originals lure listeners in with rich atmospheres and eerie melodies, but quickly shift things into high gear with fiery, energetic bass drops.
Slippy returned to Monstercat with an assemblage of dance-friendly bass records on his new EP, ‘Existentia.’ Including his groundbreaking hits “2Nite” and “Sell Your Soul” with TYNAN, the five-track package displays a wide-range of sounds from unearthly riddim chops to elements of colour-bass and melodic dubstep. “Limitless” showcases Slippy’s experimental side, fusing heavy bass with unbounded lyricism and melodies, while “Prophecy”, feat. AFTERMYFALL”, explores the concept of free will versus determinism, taking inspiration from the sounds of 2000s trance and rock-electronic crossovers. ‘Existentia’ dives into the creative depth of Slippy’s artistry, furthering his momentous force in the bass circuit and wider musical universe.
Slippy shares, “'Existentia' is easily my favorite body of work I've ever released. I approached this project with the goal of making music that tackles heavy concepts, but also remains club-ready. This EP is an amalgamation of all my influences, both musical and otherwise, through the lens of modern bass music. I'm excited for this evolution and to see what everyone thinks of it!”
